What’s up foodies, it’s Krager, and welcome to this week’s issue of The Foodie Maps LV! Also, a warm welcome to our new subs, and I don’t mean sandwiches…

While planning out this week’s issue, I thought about how most conversations about the Las Vegas food scene revolve around fine dining, but sometimes I’m just in the mood for a piled-high sandwich followed by some gluttonous dessert! So this week we will look at just that: the subs and desserts of Sin City. Let’s get to it.

Sinful Subs

📍 Sinful Subs

By combining classic New York Italian flavors with gluttony, Sinful Subs offers creatively named subs intended to represent a similar flavor profile. Some of my favorites were “Club to the Head” (Sliced Turkey, Bacon) and “Skinny Dip” (French Onion Dip). The pictures of these supersized fatty versions of classic subs are sure to offer a true Vegas-inspired dining experience. And if gluttony isn’t your thing, they also have some Not-So-Sinful Subs too!

📍 Capriotti’s

This Nevada-based food chain is passionate about one meat, in particular, turkey! The founders wanted to create a sandwich for “real turkey lovers”. Their most popular item, The Bobbie is a Thanksgiving-inspired dish, filled with stuffing, turkey, and cranberry sauce.

Now, with over 110 locations across the US, Capriotti’s has expanded their menu to include non-turkey items too. Their Philly Cheese Steak has recently gained traction online, so they seem to be doing very well for themselves and are certainly a chain on the rise. In 2015, the Las Vegas Review Journal awarded Capriotti’s as Best Fast Food Restaurant in Las Vegas! It’s not too late to join the “I liked it before it was cool” train so visit Capriotti’s before they become mainstream!

📍 eat.

Nothing says trendy more than a restaurant named “eat.” With many modern-style comfort cuisines, Chef Nat truly lives to the slogan “good food for good people” in this long anticipated Downtown LV eatery. Although more subtle, eat. also offers sinful named brunch sandwiches such as “killer grilled cheese.”
eat. is for sure to be your next go-to brunch spot.

📍 Carl’s Donuts

Carl’s Donuts boasts a reputation of rejecting modernity and embracing tradition. “We want to bring back the simple elegance and nostalgia of a classic donut,” says Amber Ramsay, COO of Carl’s Donuts. “We’re not about making the trendiest, most over-the-top donut, we’re about focusing on quality to let the donut speak for itself.” If you are ever in the mood for a good donut without the extravaganza (and price) of a trendier spot, then pay Carl’s Donuts a visit!

📍 SomiSomi

SomiSomi has been opening stores nationwide almost overnight. Their specialty is a Japanese dessert known as Taiyaki, which is a cone baked in the shape of a fish usually filled with cream or nutella. SomiSomi combines this common Japanese dessert with soft serve to deliver a new kind of dessert to American audiences. If you’re ever in Chinatown, SomiSomi is a must-visit.

📍 Gus Dean’s Ice Cream

Gus Dean’s just recently opened up their fourth location and first on the Strip at the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes. They also have a location downtown as well as 2 more around the Vegas area. Their quick success is attributed to their creamy ice cream and simple but delicious shakes. They are always changing their flavors to keep you coming back.
